Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Black Canyon Wilderness

This remote 13,400 acre wilderness offers opportunities for solitude. The major creeks of Black Canyon and Cottonwood bisect the area. Dense thickets of willow and brush follow the stream course. Black Creek National Wild and Scenic River

Black Creek, with it's deep, black water and white sand bars and colorful vertical bluffs, meanders through the De Soto National Forest with trees and flowering shrubs hanging over the banks.  Canoeing or floating down the river is available through an outfitter guide. Primitive camping is allowed all along the stream within the national forest and a number of trails can be accessed near the river.

Black Jack Campground

This campground is at 6,300' elevation. 12 camping units. Please pack your trash out. The nearby Coronado Trail Scenic Byway makes for an interesting day trip. Black Kettle Boating Site

Black Kettle Boating Site Fish Your National Forests: This site can be accessed by passenger car. The fish available include: Bass, Catfish, and Panfish. The types of fishing available include: Shore, Motorized boat, Spin, and Bait.  There is ADA Accessible fishing access with a fishing pier and a boat launch.

Black Lake Recreation Area

Black Lake Recreation Area is a family-favorite on the Great Divide Ranger District. It is spread along the eastern shores of its namesake, Black Lake. The calm waters beckon to adventurers, offering fishing, boating, and swimming. Bring your trailer with your OHVs and access the Fishtrap Motorized Trail from the nearby Camp Loretta Trailhead just 12 miles away. OHV use in the campground is prohibited.

Black Lakes Picnic Site

The Black Lakes are located on top of Vail Pass just a short distance down the Vail Pass / Tenmile Canyon National Recreation Trail from the Vail Pass Rest Area. There is a vault toilet and fishing pier located at the site.

Black Lee Camping Area

This dispersed camp site is approximately 15 miles from McCall on Lick Creek Road, McCall Ranger District.  This site has a vault toilet, but no other services are available.  Pack out your trash.  Space for approximately 10 camp sites is available in close proximity to each other.
