Your national forests and grasslands are 193 million acres of vast, scenic beauty waiting for you to discover. Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 162,984 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 400,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 36.7 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Wall Lake #1818

The Wall Lake Trail is one of the quickest and steepest routes up onto the Flat Tops. Leaving the trailhead just above the Trappers Lake campgrounds, the trail immediately enters lodgepole pine and spruce that were burned in the 2002 Big Fish Fire. West Marvine #1888

The West Marvine Trail is 6.6 miles long. It begins near the Marvine Campground and ends at the Ute Creek Trail (#1824).

Corral Creek #41

The Corral Creek Trail starts at Vail Pass and takes you through a valley and then starts to climb into the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area. This is a great trail to access alpine terrain quickly and enjoy the surrounding mountain views.

Dickey Day Use Area

This parking area is a great access point to the shores of Lake Dillon near the town of Frisco. There is a trail that starts from here that parallels the shore of Lake Dillon with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. This trailhead also provides access to the network of trails on the Frisco Peninsula.

Dillon Dam Overlook Day Use Area

Enjoy the view of Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountains from this overlook near the dam. The Summit County Recreation Path crosses by this parking area.

Summit County Rec Path

The Summit County Recreational Pathway System is a 55-mile long network of paved, non-motorized pathways that connect towns and resorts throughout Summit County. The Summit County system is connected to Eagle via Vail Pass.

Giberson Bay Day Use Fishing Site

This day use area is located on the edge of Lake Dillon so you can enjoy views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. You can enjoy a variety of activities around Lake Dillon such as boating, hiking, picnicking and fishing.  There are two accessible fishing platforms.

Heaton Bay Campground

Heaton Bay Campground is located on the shores of Lake Dillon between Frisco and Dillon along the Dillon Dam Road. This is a very central location in Summit County to enjoy the many activities in the area such as hiking, biking, fishing, boating and picnicking. Meadow Creek TH #33

Mount Royal/Masontown TH #1

This trail climbs through a lodgepole pine forest for approximately 1 mile to the old mining town of Masontown. North Tenmile TH #37

This is a great trail that is easily accessible from the town of Frisco. The beginning of the trail climbs between Chief Mountain and Wichita Mountain as it continues up the Tenmile drainage. Wheeler Lakes -Gore Range TH #60

This trail enters the Eagles Nest Wilderness and provides great views of Copper Mountain Ski Area to the south and the Tenmile Range to the southeast. The trail climbs steadily up through aspen and lodgepole pine forests before reaching the two Wheeler Lakes. If you want a longer hike, then you can continue on the Gore Range Trail up to Lost Lake or to the top of Uneva Pass.  

Wilder Gulch TH #75

This is a pleasant 3½ mile hike from the parking lot at Vail Pass to the top of Ptarmigan Pass. There are potential opportunities for viewing a variety of wildlife and wildflowers. Old Dillon Reservoir TH #87

This is a short, easy trail that has spectacular views of the mountains of the Tenmile Range and the Continental Divide. Mayflower Gulch TH #1178

Miner's Creek Road TH #1000

The Miners Creek Road is near the town of Frisco and is an out and back route. At the end of Miners Creek Road travelers are rewarded with a majestic view of the northern portion of the Tenmile Range. There is no motorized access beyond this point but you can continue on the Miner’s Creek Trail by hiking, biking or horseback.
