Your national forests and grasslands are 193 million acres of vast, scenic beauty waiting for you to discover. Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Chickadee Trailhead

In the winter, Chickadee Trailhead gives access to many cross-country ski trails west of Patterson Lake. In summer months those trails are hiking and mountain bike trails. Map of Chickadee Area Trails

Chickasawhay Wildlife Management Area

Chickasawhay Wildlife Management Area is managed by Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.  For information concerning permits or if you have other questions, contact the local office at 601-344-0600 or go to: MDWFP - Chickasawhay.

Chicken Creek Campground

Elevation 6200 feet. 8 shady sites, set among pines in Chicken Creek Canyon. Fishing is good in Chicken Creek. Pets must be leashed in campground.

Chicken Park Road (#181, #181A-D)

Chicken Park Road is a popular area for dispersed camping and is located north of Red Feather Lakes.  Restrooms are not available at this site. 

Chicken-deer Creek Trailhead

Chicken-Deer Creek Trailhead has a large parking lot and offers access to Chicken Creek Trail #138 and Deer Creek Trail #139. There are no facilities.

Chico Flat Dispersed Camping

Chico Seed Orchard

The Chico Seed Orchard is located on 209 acres in Chico, California. Development started in 1904 when the site was assigned to the Agricultural Research Service for the purpose of plant breeding research and plant introduction from all over the world. Chico Trailhead

A hitch rail, and loading ramp are provided. Located near the popular Sled Springs OHV trails.

Chief Mountain (#58)

Begin at the Chief Mountain Trailhead. The trail passes through a spruce and fir forest and quickly reaches treeline. The last stretch of the trail offers an overlook of the Bear Creek Basin, including Mount Goliath, Rogers Peak and Roslin Peak. The trail is 1.4 miles one way.

Chief Mountain Trailhead

The Chief Mountain Trailhead is located south of Idaho Springs. It provides access to the Chief Mountain Trail (#58).

Chief Paulina Horse Camp

This campground is located near Paulina Lake in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. This is the only horse campground in the caldera and provides the horse enthusiast a great way to sight-see throughout the entire monument area. There are a couple of resorts nearby for camping supplies and restaurants.

Chief Paulina Trailhead

This is a small day use area for equestrian use accessing the Newberry Crater trail, which is at the base of the Big Obsidian Flow and connects to the larger caldera trail network. Chief Shakes Hot Springs Site

Facility includes an enclosed and an open-air redwood hot tub, dressing rooms, and benches. No overnight accommodations. A 0.3 mile trail off Hot Springs Slough provides access at lower water levels. At river levels below 16', boat access is limited and walking along the slough is required to get to the hot tubs. Expect crowds on weekends, holidays, and sunny days throughout the summer. Chihuahua Lake TH #78

Starting from Peru Creek Road, the Chihuahua Gulch Road continually climbs upward until it crosses a stream, where it levels off and then passes several beaver ponds and beautiful meadows. This trailhead provides access to the Chikamin Tie ORV Trail #1561 and the Upper Mad River area.

Chilao Campground

Chilao Campground sits at an elevation of 5,300 feet, giving campers majestic panoramas of nearby Vetter Lookout and Big Tujunga Canyon. The campground offers two different loops for tent camping: Little Pines and Manzanita. Each loop offers 40+ sites for camping. Manzanita is used for overflow during winter months. Chilao Picnic Area

Elevation: 5,300-feet. Amenities: 20+ picnic sites with picnic tables, BBQ pedestal grills, campfire rings. vault toilets, trash facilities. Piped water may or may not be available. Due to limited water availability, please bring enough water for cooking, cleaning, drinking, and extinguishing BBQ grill fires and campfires.

Chilao Visitor Center

Elevation: 5,300-feet in elevation. Amenities: Self-guided trails with exhibits. Vault toilets (-non-flush) are located across the road in the Chilao Picnic Area. Trash receptacles available. No water available at visitor center. Closest water source (drinking water, water to wash hands from an outdoor faucet) is at Chilao Picnic Area, but water may not be available in winter months. 

Chilcoot

Chilcoot Campground is in the shade of large cottonwoods in a mixed pine forest alongside Little Last Chance Creek. The campground has water, showers, flush toilets and paved roads. Each campsite has paved parking pad, table, fire ring and grill. 22 of the 40 sites are available for reservation.  

Childers Creek Trailhead

Childers Creek is a parking area for those to access the Hiwassee River and the John Muir Trail.

Childs Glacier campground is OPEN but cannot be accessed via the Copper River Highway due to Bridge 339 being closed by Alaska DOT&PF. Chilhowee Recreation Area
