Old Forge Recreation Area

Are you looking for a primitive tent camping experience? Come stay at this small campground located along the banks of Jennings Creek. Large walk-in tent sites are screened by native vegetation.  In the early 1900’s, this area was the site of an iron forge. Iron ore was smelted and made into materials for the railroad operation that harvested timber in the area.

Old Highway 2 Interpretive Trailhead #2

Trail Length: 2.3 miles. This trail is part of the old highway between Libby and Troy. There are many small springs and cascades, and spectacular views of the Kootenai River. The old highway passes through the closed environment of softwoods and mosses and the open environment of wildflowers and alders.

The Old Owl Creek Trail #236 begins on Forest Service Road #858.2E and ends at Forest Service Road #858. This trail begins at approximately 8,578 feet and descends to 8,434 feet before beginning to climb. It continues to gradually climb as it works its way to Owl Creek. It crosses Owl Creek and parallels the creek until its end at FSR #858, Owl Pass Road.

The Old Owl Creek Spur A trail is 1.0 miles long. It begins at Forest Trail #236 and ends at the forest boundary. The trail is open for hiking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicles (OHV) less than or equal to 50 inches wide.
