Village #416

The Village Trail #416 begins across from the log cabin in the Telluride Ski Area and ends at Mountain Village. This trail is a single track mountain biking/hiking experience that rolls downhill across ski runs and through dense spruce-fir stands. Occasional tight turns and rough trail tread require intermediate biking skills.

Village Foatboat Access

The Village Floatboat Access is a site to launch a raft into the South Fork Boise River.  There is a restroom on site.

Vinegar Creek Boat Ramp

End of road site with outfitter jet boat services for the Salmon River. Site is take-off point for upriver travel via jet boat to Shepp Ranch, James Ranch and Mackay Bar. Site has a boat launching ramp, but is not recommended for average user: 4-wheel drive and winch required to get back up the ramp.

Vinegar Hill Indian Rock Scenic Area

Located in the northeast part of the Forest, this high elevation area provides spectacular vistas of the North Fork John Day Wilderness, the Middle and North Fork drainages of the John Day River, and the peaks of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness to the south. This scenic area is located on the southernmost portion of the Umatilla National Forest adjacent to the North Fork John Day Wilderness. Vineyard Canyon Picnic Area

This picnic site is located on the scenic south shore of Roosevelt Lake, within the Roosevelt Lake Wildlife Area.  During the winter Canada Geese and bald eagles can be observed. Virginia Lake Cabin

The Virginia Lake Cabin is a fully accessible 16' x 16' A-frame cabin with a 10' x 18' addition, wrap-around deck, walkways to site facilities, and a floating dock. 2 single bunks, table, benches, wood stove, wood shed, splitting maul. Bedding, cooking utensils, and firewood not provided. Skiff and oars provided, bring your own personal floatation.  Guests should provide their own firewood.

Virginia Lilly Trailhead #322

The trailhead parking is a small pull out suitable for 3 or 4 vehicles. The 4 mile easy trail makes a loop back to the trailhead filled with spring flowers. Vista Butte Sno-Park

Vista Linda Campground

This popular campground is open year round. The campground is located in the scenic San Diego Canyon, with spectacular red rock canyon and mesa views. Vista Point Observation Site

Vista Point is a popular stopping point along the Beartooth Scenic Highway. From Red Lodge, MT drive south on US Hwy 212 (Beartooth Scenic Highway) for 18.9 miles to the Vista Point parking area. A short hard surface trail leads to a platform overlooking Rock Creek Valley, where you can enjoy spectacular views and various interpretive displays. There is a large parking lot and restroom facilities available.

Vista Ridge Trailhead

Vogel Canyon Picnic Area

Vogel Canyon is a scenic tributary of the Purgatorie River. Voyager Rock Camping Area

Popular with Off Highway Vehicle users, Voyager Rock camping area is located on the east shore of Courtright Reservoir off of the Dusy-Ershim trail. Large Lodgepole pine trees provide shade to the campsites and most sites have lake views. Each site has a table, grill, and bear box. Vault toilets are provided. Campground is accessible only by Off Highway Vehicles.

W. Elk Stock Driveway B TH #2152

The W. Elk Stock Driveway trail is 1.0 miles long. It begins at Forest Trail 2152 and ends at Forest Trail 2152. The trail is open for the following uses: Horseback Riding

W. Mountain TH #1817

The W. Mountain trail begins at Forest Road #616 and ends at Island Lakes Trail #1842. The first 2.5 miles ascend towards the rim of the White River Plateau at a very steep grade. Once you are on the White River Plateau the terrain is mostly rolling hills near above timberline with very long sections of meadows. In the meadows the trail may be faint at times, but it is marked with rock and log cairns.  

W. Persido Bar River Access

Persido Bar (sometimes incorrectly called Persidio Bar) is a high-use, popular take-out for river floaters. There is a graded gravel road to the large cobble bar and a flat road to the water's edge. There is a permanent restroom and ample parking.

Wabasso Lake Recreation Area

If you are looking to canoe in the glassy waters of Wabasso Lake or enjoy a rustic cozy campground, try the Wabasso Lake Recreation Area off Forest Road 142 west of Lac du Flambeau. Wachipauka Pond S Trailhead

From the parking area hikers can travel south on the AT to scenic Wachipauka Pond, reached in 2.3 miles. Crossing Rte. 25 to travel north on the AT involves fording Oliverian Brook (caution during high water) to Jeffers Brook Shelter in 0.4 miles.

Waddle Peak #2210

The Waddle Peak trail is 4.4 miles long. It begins at Wilson Mesa / Sleepy Cat Peak Trail #1800 and ends at the Forest Boundary.

Wade Lake Campground and Picnic Areas

Wade Lake Campground is located in southwestern Montana on the shore of its scenic namesake lake. It is approximately 43 miles south of Ennis and 35 miles west of Yellowstone National Park. The 27-site campground includes one group site and is situated in a dense Douglas Fir forest on the hillside above the lake.
