Upper Twin Creek Access

Ute - Sweetwater #2032

The Ute-Sweetwater Trail runs north from Sweetwater Lake to Big Springs along the eastern edge of W Mountain and the Flat Tops Wilderness. The trail climbs steeply out of Sweetwater Lake before entering forest for the remainder of the trip. Like may trails in this area of the Flat Tops, this trail offers access to numerous other trails and round trips of varying lengths are possible.

Ute Campground

Ute Campground, just north of Hwy 160, has 26 campsites on a gentle, south-facing slope. Ponderosa pines give shade, but the area gets very warm in summer. There is one group campsite. The hillside above the campground offers excellent views of the pinnacles of Chimney Rock National Monument. Services include potable water, trash pickup, vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire grates.

Ute Creek #1824

The Ute Creek Trailhead is just outside of the Ute Creek summer homes. The trail switchbacks .5 mile to the top of a ridge between Ute and Campbell Creeks, and follows a ridgetop for nearly 2 miles before dropping into the Ute Creek drainage. The Ute Creek Trail #608 descends at a slight grade heading due west on the south side of the Indian Creek drainage.  It crosses the creek and passes through a fenceline at the edge of a meadow.
