Your national forests and grasslands are 193 million acres of vast, scenic beauty waiting for you to discover. Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Wagner Lake Area

This section contains information on the sites located in the southern section of the Huron National Forest. 

Wagner Lake Campground

This shallow lake is surrounded by National Forest System lands. A small campground surrounded by a mixed hardwood forest, this area is popular.

Wagon Wheel - CDNST Trailhead

Trailhead on Little Walnut Road, north of the Little Walnut-Gomez Peak Day Use Area, for access to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (Trail #74 on the Gila National Forest).

Wagon Wheel Gap Interpretive Site

This Interpretive facility is situated as a rest stop on the Silverthread Scenic Byway. It offers ample graveled parking lot, and interpretive signs explaining the Gap Geology and how it was named. It is not handicap accessible. There is also a small gravel boat launching ramp for rafts and small fishing boats to use on the river.

Wagon Wheel TH #2049

The Wagon Wheel trail begins at Forest Road #644 north of Heart Lake and ends at Coffee Pot Road #600. Wakalu Hep Yo (Wild River) Campground

    For over 2000 years the Miwuk people lived seasonally in this canyon, gathering food, and fishing the river. The Miwuk word WaKaLuu means river and Hep Yoo describes an untamed or wild force of nature. This beautiful campground is set in mature conifer and oak forest on the North Fork Stanislaus River.

Walker Cove Buoy Day Use Area

This buoy is available on a first come; first serve basis and is intended for use by small and medium watercraft. The buoy is located in 30-80 feet of water and has a 7/8 inch chain. Look for a white buoy with blue reflective tape.

Walker Dispersed Camping

The North Country Trail parallels an east-west line along the southern border of the Forest. This campground is located on Walkup Lake.

Wall Creek Cabin

This is a popular cabin as it is near the Wall Creek Game Management Area south of Ennis, Montana. There are three buildings at this site: a barn, a main house, and the cabin. Only the cabin is available for public use. The barn and main house are used by the grazing association. The facility was a ranger station until the 1940s.

Wall Lake #1818

The Wall Lake Trail is one of the quickest and steepest routes up onto the Flat Tops.
