Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Almanor Ranger District

Almanor RV Dump Station

The Almanor RV Dump Station is temporarily closed for repairs, please call the Almanor Ranger District for updates (530)258-2141.   The Almanor RV Dump Station is open to all visitors, and allows four RVs at a time.

Almont Campground - Gunnison RD

Almont Campground is located adjacent to Colorado State Highway 135. This campground is in walking distance of the Almont Gorge, where the East River and Taylor River join to form the Gunnison River. Other recreation opportunities from Almont Campground include 4-wheel driving, mountain biking and kayaking. The landscape is mostly aspen and cottonwood trees.

Alpha Omega Observation Site

Rest area off of HWY 20 with sweeping views of historic diggins and hydraulic mining remnants along the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There is a short interpretive trail with an observation deck.

Alpine #225

The Alpine Trail #225 begins at Forest Service Road #858, Owl Creek Pass/Cimarron Road and ends at Forest Service road #868, the Alpine Plateau Access Road on the Gunnison Ranger District. Alpine Boat Landing

Located two miles west of Alpine, Wyoming on the south side of Highway 26 just before the bridge crossing the South Fork Snake River.  Area is located near the southeast end of Palisades Reservoir. Alpine Campground

High on Mount Hood, near the headwaters of the Salmon River, the Alpine Campground is the highest on the Forest. Snow can be present in mid-summer.  This campground offers excellent acess to nearby Timberline Lodge and many hiking and mountain biking trails as well as the town of Government Camp below it. This campground has a seasonal gate that closes for the winter.

Alpine Divide Campground

Alpine Divide Campground is tucked away in a picturesque setting at the foot of Escudilla Mountain in a cool, quiet grove of ponderosa pines. Its convenient location makes it a good base for travel throughout the area.

Alpine Garden Trailhead

This area is renowned for the rare and beautiful alpine plants that can be observed blooming in spring and early summer, as well as spectacular views. The trail is entirely above tree-line and exposure to wind and weather can be extreme.

Alpine Lakes Wilderness: Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie

Alpine Meadows Campground

This campground is located along the Chiwawa River, 21 miles from Fish Lake.  8 campsites are located in a valley floor.  Sites are occupied on a first come first served basis.

Alpine Mine #206.1A

The Alpine Mine Trail #206.1A begins at an intersection with the Weehawken Trail #206 and ends at an overlook just past the Alpine Mine.
