Allegheny Reservoir

Lush green forest surrounds the 7,647-acre reservoir that spans the border between Pennsylvania and New York. Allegheny Wild and Scenic River

In 1992 (Public Law 102-271) added 87 miles of the Allegheny River to the National Wild & Scenic River System classified as Recreational. The goal is to protect the existing outstanding and remarkable values and preserve a free-flowing condition for present and future generations.

Allen Basin Trailhead

This Trailhead serves as the access point for the Allen Basin Trail No. 1181. This 1.0 mile ATV trail gives access to Allen Basin Reservoir and multiple dispersed camping sites. More camping opportunities and toilets can be found nearby at Crosho Lake Recreation Area.  Please Note: This trail is closed to all vehicles over 50”  

Allen Branch Pond

Try your luck at fishing for bass, bluegill and catfish from the shoreline or one of the fishing piers on this 2.5 acre pond. Enjoy a walk around the accessible quarter-mile interprative trail and learn about the flora and fauna that make up a warm-water ecosystem.

Allen Creek Reservoir is an artificial impoundment built for irrigation in the 1940's or 1950's downstream from the junctions ofAllen, Beetle, and Yellowjacket Creeks. Allen Springs Campground

Like the other campgrounds on the Metolius, Allen Springs is located amongst towering Ponderosa Pines, on a turn of the Metolius River that broadens the river view. Most of the campsites are better suited to tents rather than RV's. Find a map of this campground here.

Allie Canyon #100 Trailhead

Almanor Beach

A large day use beach with a swimming area protected by buoys to separate swimmers from motor boats, jet skis, and other lake users.  Ample parking is provided within walking distance. 

Almanor Boat Launch

The boat launch consists of two lanes and a courtesy dock.  Generally open mid April through October, depending on conditions.  Parking is provided for boat trailers and vehicles.

Almanor RV Dump Station

The Almanor RV Dump Station is temporarily closed for repairs, please call the Almanor Ranger District for updates (530)258-2141.   The Almanor RV Dump Station is open to all visitors, and allows four RVs at a time.

Almont Campground - Gunnison RD

Almont Campground is located adjacent to Colorado State Highway 135. This campground is in walking distance of the Almont Gorge, where the East River and Taylor River join to form the Gunnison River. Other recreation opportunities from Almont Campground include 4-wheel driving, mountain biking and kayaking. The landscape is mostly aspen and cottonwood trees.

Alpha Omega Observation Site

Rest area off of HWY 20 with sweeping views of historic diggins and hydraulic mining remnants along the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There is a short interpretive trail with an observation deck.

Located two miles west of Alpine, Wyoming on the south side of Highway 26 just before the bridge crossing the South Fork Snake River.  Area is located near the southeast end of Palisades Reservoir. Alpine Campground

High on Mount Hood, near the headwaters of the Salmon River, the Alpine Campground is the highest on the Forest. Snow can be present in mid-summer.  This campground offers excellent acess to nearby Timberline Lodge and many hiking and mountain biking trails as well as the town of Government Camp below it. This campground has a seasonal gate that closes for the winter.

Alpine Divide Campground

Alpine Divide Campground is tucked away in a picturesque setting at the foot of Escudilla Mountain in a cool, quiet grove of ponderosa pines. Its convenient location makes it a good base for travel throughout the area. Alpine Divide Campground map

Alpine Garden Trailhead

This area is renowned for the rare and beautiful alpine plants that can be observed blooming in spring and early summer, as well as spectacular views. The trail is entirely above tree-line and exposure to wind and weather can be extreme.
