Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Cache Creek Picnic Area

Cache Creek is one of the most popular trail networks in the Jackson area for hiking, biking and walking dogs. Picnic tables are available at the trailhead and about 1/4 mile up the trail, offering options to combine a picnic lunch or dinner with a family hike. This trailhead is located directly on Cache Creek, just out of the town of Jackson and is the main access to the Snow King Area Trail System. Cactus Flat OHV Staging Area

Cactus Flat OHV Staging Area is off of Highway 18, north of Big Bear and south of Lucerne Valley. Look for Forest Road 3N03 and go southeast, following the signs to the staging area. There is a vault toilet and a couple of picnic tables at the staging area along with ample parking and informational signs.

Cactus Ramada 1 is a reservable group picnic site within the extremely popular Sabino Canyon Recreation Area at the edge of Tucson, Arizona. The facility is accessible and can accommodate up to 45 people. Groups can picnic, hike and ride horseback in this desert oasis of Coronado National Forest.

Caddo/Womble Ranger District

Cagle Recreation Area, located on the shores of Lake Conroe, offers great fishing and water sports just 45 minutes north of Houston. Cagle has a boat ramp, hiking trails and two camping loops with 47 full-service RV sites nestled among the pines of the Sam Houston National Forest. Cal-Ida Campground is located on the North Yuba River along Hwy 49. Campground is surrounded by oak, maple and locust trees. Access to the North Yuba Trail. 9 reservable sites and 2 first come first serve sites. Campground was redesigned in 2023. It is designed as an OHV campground with a loading dock on site. Calcasieu Ranger District

  The Calcasieu Ranger District is divided into two land areas called units; the Evangeline Unit (97,000 acres, Rapides Parish) and the Vernon Unit (85,000 acres, Vernon Parish).Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities in beautiful longleaf pine stands.

Caldwell Cabin

Nestled amongst the tall pine trees overlooking a large grassy meadow, Caldwell Cabin sits at an elevation of 7,600 feet. Visitors can relax in the two Adirondack chairs located on the front porch and take in the panoramic view of an open meadow. A nice walk across the meadow takes you to locations overlooking the West Fork of the Black River and the Mainstem Black River Canyon.

Caldwell Fields Group Campground

Caldwell Fields offers two large, open fields for group camping, Milton and George Fields, ideal for campers who require few amenities. A third field is available at the site for day-use only. The day use field is currently designated as a First Amendment Gathering Site.
