Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Grasshopper Flat

Grasshopper Flat Campground is on the south east side of Lake Davis. Ample shade is provided by the surrounding pine forest. The campground has host, water, coin operated showers, flush toilets, trash service and paved roads. Grizzly Campground is on the south end of Lake Davis. Ample shade is provided by the mixed pine forest. The campground has water, showers, flush toilets, host, trash service and paved roads. Lightning Tree Campground

Lightning Tree Campground is situated where high deserts meets Sierra Nevada forest near Lake Davis. Though slightly more rustic than other Lake Davis Campgrounds, Lighning Tree Campground has paved parking, picnic table, fire ring and grill. The campground has a mix of campsites for reservation and on first come basis. 

Honker Cove Overflow

This campground opens when all other campgrounds in the area are full.

Cottonwood Springs Campground

Cottonwood Springs Campground is located near  Frenchman Lake in mixed conifer and high desert vegetation. It has 20 family sites and two group sites. Several of the family sites are first come first served. Campsites do not have bear resistant locker - store all food, trash and scented items appropriately and be bear aware. Chilcoot

Chilcoot Campground is in the shade of large cottonwoods in a mixed pine forest alongside Little Last Chance Creek. The campground has water, showers, flush toilets and paved roads. Each campsite has paved parking pad, table, fire ring and grill. 22 of the 40 sites are available for reservation.  

Frenchman Campground

Frenchman Campground is situated on a hillside next to the Frenchman Boat Launch Facility. The campground remains open throughout the year. Between peak seasons, water is turned off, trash service ends and fees are not collected. In winter, snow usually closes the road. Spring Creek Campground

Spring Creek Campground (5,800 feet) is just minutes away from the clear waters of the Frenchman Lake. The landscape provides a magnificent backdrop for a variety of recreational activities. The campground offers 35 camp sites with 16 sites available for reservation. Opening 5-24-2024

Big Cove Campground

Big Cove Campground is a wonderful location for a family outing away from life in the big city. The campground has water, showers, flush toilets and trash service. It’s in a mixed conifer forest along the east shore of Frenchman Lake. Reservations are available for 21 of the 38 campsites. There is one group site. Campsite amenities include paved RV / parking pad, picnic table, fire ring and grill.

Big Cove Overflow

Big Cove Overflow Campground only opens when all other Frenchman Lake Recreation Area campgrounds are full. Amenities at this rustic campground include unpaved parking and vault toilet. Campers are welcome to use the showers at Big Cove Campground.

Gold Lake Campground

Gold Lake Campground is located along the shores of Gold Lake at an elevation of 6,400 feet. There are 37 campsites available.  For the 2024 Recreation Season, all sites will be first come, first serve.  The road leading north of the boat launch facility is narrow and rough and may not be suited to your vehicle.  Vault toilets are available and from May to October portable toilets are installed.…

Lakes Basin Campground

Lakes Basin Campground is located in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area. Located nine miles southwest of Graeagle, California, this recreation area has special geological features.  There is breathtaking scenery and over 20 small lakes nearby, most of which are accessible by hiking trails.

Meadow View Equestrian Campground

This six unit campground is located five miles north of Frenchman Lake. This a family and equestrian campground. This is the only equestrian campground on the Beckwourth District. There is a horse corral across the road from the campground with a table and fire ring. Laufman Campground

Laufman Campground is a six unit campground located four miles southeast of the small town of Milford, California.  Each campsite has a table and fire ring.  A vault toilet is provided.  There is no water or garbage service.

Goose Lake Campground

Goose Lake Campground has 13 campsites that include table, fire ring, food locker, vault toilets and parkin. Access to some campsites is via rough unpaved roads. Some of the features of this area include breathtaking scenery and over 20 scenic lakes for hiking, biking and equestrian enjoyment.

Haven Lake Campground

Running Deer Campground

 This campground has 40 sites including six prime lakeside sites. Campground amenities include seasonal host, water, flush toilets and trash service along with paved roads. Campsite amenities include picnic tables, fire ring and paved parking pad. Fishing, day hiking, nature viewing and water recreation are some of the local attractions.

Wyandotte Campground

This campground has 30 campsites, 12 of which are reservable. Two sites are double sites. Campground amenities include seasonal host, water, flush toilets and trash service along with paved roads. Campsite amenities include picnic tables, fire ring and paved parking pad. Fishing, day hiking, nature viewing and water recreation are some of the local attractions.

Black Rock Walk-in Tent Campground

Black Rock Campground has 20 first come walk-in tent sites near the lake. The large parking lot has room for RV campers. Activities near the campground include fishing, accessible fishing trail, boat launch, water sports, hiking and mountain biking on the Lakeshore Trail.
