Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Whitetail Cabin

Whitetail Cabin is a registered historic site and was once used as a ranger station for the Whitetail Reserve in the early 1900s. The 2-room cabin sleeps 4 and comes furnished with 2 sets of bunkbeds with mattresses, a table with 4 chairs, electric range, electric refrigerator, cleaning equipment and some basic cooking and eating utensils. A wood burning stove is provided, along with a limited supply of firewood.

Diamond Butte Lookout/Cabin

Cow Creek Campground And Picnic Area

A campground on the Ashland Ranger District. No Reservations: This campground does not use a reservation system, it is managed on a first-come, first-served basis. Be aware the campground may fill up on weekends & holidays during the summer months and you should arrive in the early afternoon to ensure there is a space available for the night. Hunt Unit 11M (Peaks)

Bald Mountain Campground

Bald Mountain Campground is located along U.S. Highway 14A, the Medicine Wheel Passage scenic byway. The campground is in a wooded setting surrounded by open meadows. Beautiful views and wildflowers abound in the area around Bald Mountain. Restrooms and potable are available at this site. Horse/Pack animals are allowed at this site.

Dead Swede Campground

Dead Swede Campground and the nearby Dead Swede Picnic Ground, are named for the gentleman whose grave is located there. The campground is located east of U.S. Highway 14, the Bighorn Scenic Byway. It's proximity to the South Tongue River makes it a popular area for anglers.

Shell Creek Campground

Shell Creek Campground is located off U.S. Highway 14, the Bighorn Scenic Byway. The campground is situated along Shell Creek and is close to the Adelaide Trailhead, which offers access to the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Owen Creek Campground

Owen Creek Campground is located west of U.S. Highway 14, the Bighorn Scenic Byway. Owen Creek runs nearby. Restrooms and potable water are available at this site. Horse/Pack animals are not allowed at this site. Single Site: $20 per night

North Tongue Campground

North Tongue Campground is located on the North Fork of the Tongue River about one mile north of Burgess Junction, where the Medicine Wheel Passage Scenic Byway and the Bighorn Scenic Byway come together. It's an excellent camping spot for fishing enthusiasts. Restrooms and potable water are available at this site. Horse/Pack animals are not allowed at this site.

Dyar Pasture Recreation Area

This 60-acre freshwater wetland was originally a cooperative project with the U.S. Forest Service, Georgia DNR, Georgia Power and Ducks Unlimited. Willow Flat Campground

Willow Flat Campground is nestled along the banks of the Cub River, about seven miles southeast of Preston, Idaho. Tucked within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest in a scenic valley, this popular campground sits at an elevation of 6,300 feet, accessible via Cub River Road (Forest Road 406) off U.S. Highway 91.

Columbine Campground

Set along the Red River in a steep canyon, this site is at the base of the Columbine Canyon Trail with access into the Columbine-Hondo Wilderness. A parking lot for the Columbine Canyon Trail is located at the back of the campground. Restrooms and potable water are available at this site.

Canjilon Lakes Campground

Located in a picturesque setting of three lakes and a meandering stream. Forest Road 129 (Alkali Spring Rd.) is closed to motorized travel Jan. 1 - Apr. 30.

Farnsworth Cabin

Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the two-bedroom stone cabin was renovated in 2010 and now provides modern amenities. The cabin is equipped with electricity, forced air heating, and indoor plumbing including hot running water, a flush toilet, and a shower. Pine Grove Boat Access Campground

This small rustic campground is located on the east bank of the Allegheny Reservoir just north of Kinzua Wolf Run Marina. It is accessible by boat via the Allegheny Reservoir. Dewdrop Campground

Dewdrop Campground is located along Longhouse National Scenic Byway. This 11-acre campground is nestled on the shoreline of Kinzua Bay, which extends southwest from the main body of the Allegheny Reservoir.  Several campsites offer views of the water.

Minister Creek Campground

The Allegheny's smallest campground with six family campsites sits along the babbling waters of Minister Creek.The Minister Creek Trailhead is situated directly across SR 666 from the campground where the popular 6-mile loop Minister Creek Hiking Trail starts and ends at the trailhead. Minster Creek Hiking Trail connects to the North Country National Scenic Trail at its northern most point.

Redlands Recreation Area

Ojo Redondo Campground

This campground is located southwest of  Mt. Sedgwick, the highest peak in the Zuni Mountains. It is situated in ponderosa pine, douglas fir, and aspen trees, with a scenic meadow adjacent to the campground. Be advised of road conditions due to elevation and precipitation. No trash services.
