Cottonwood Lake Picnic Area
A vault toilet, parking area and scattered picnic tables serve day-use visitors to Cottonwood Lake. Four accessible tables and fire rings are lined up along the shore, and three shadier options are provided on the north side of the parking area. Bear-resistant garbage cans are available.
Cottonwood Lake Picnic Area
Cottonwood Lake Picnic area is located on the eastern shore of the lake. The picnic area has 17 sites with picnic tables and fire rings. Anglers can access the lakeshore through the picnic area, or they can walk along the lakeshore to a find a fishing spot.

Cottonwood Lake is a 40-acre flood prevention reservoir in the Lyndon B. Johnson National Forest that was constructed by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). Fishing and duck hunting opportunities abound.

Located off Highway 27 south of the Cimarron River, this shady site has many accessible picnic tables as well as a steam tractor display, interpretative signs, and a playground area. Also available are grills and restrooms. The Turkey Trail is nearby.
Cottonwood Pit Campground
As you may have guessed, this campground is located in an old gravel pit. When the excavation hit the water table and the pit was filled in with water the operations ceased and the site was abandoned. Now this campground is locally known as a swimming hole, and is also occasionally stocked with trout.
