This loop goes past hoodoos and mixed conifer forests to reach the top of the Paunsaugunt plateau where you can overlook the community of Hatch. There will be birds-eye views of brilliantly colored cliffs and hoodoos. This loop includes a section for vehicles that are 50 inches or less.

Bailey Bay Buoy
This buoy is available on a first come; first serve basis and is intended for use by small and medium watercraft. The buoy is located in 30-80 feet of water and has a 7/8 inch chain. Look for a white buoy with blue reflective tape. This buoy provides access to the Lake Shelokum trail and Lake Shelokum shelter.

Bailey Cove is a beautiful forested campground. Due to the nearby boatramp, this facility is very popular when the ramp is in the water (full to 50' down). In addition to the boat ramp, there is also a day use area and hiking trail nearby. The boat ramp facility is very busy early in the season when the lake level is at its highest.

The Bailey Cove Day Use and Picnic area is located on the McCloud River Arm of Shasta Lake and has easy access on and off Interstate 5. To get there take the O'Brien/Shasta Caverns exit off Interstate 5, follow Shasta Caverns road for one mile to the Bailey Cove facility. This picnic area is part of the Bailey Cove recreation complex which includes the Bailey Cove campground and the Bailey Cove boat ramp.
