Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Hansen Mill Dispersed Camping

Elevation: 10,800' This small, isolated dispersed (HORSE FRIENDLY) campground is located 16.8 miles east of Creede on Forest Road 600. Hapgood Pond Recreation Area

Hapgood Pond Recreation Area offers camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and hiking among the tranquil surroundings of Hapgood Pond.  The pond itself is 12 acres in size and 12 feet at its deepest point. The recreation area offers a 28-site campground in a wooded setting, a 1 mile nature trail, and a day use area with a beach for swimming. No lifeguard is on duty; swim at your own risk.

Happy Camp Campground

Located approximately one hour from Paisley, Oregon, Happy Camp is a campground ideally located along peaceful Dairy Creek. Happy Camp lies at the heart of recreation in northern California. River rafting, gold panning, wilderness hiking and scenic driving are all popular activities in the summer. Happy Jack Trailhead

Winter skiing and summer hiking trails are available on this summit loop. Also very popular for mountain biking. Trails connect to Tie City and the Old Happy Jack Road. Happy Meadows Campground

Happy Meadows Campground is located 3 miles north of Lake George off County Road 77. Parking spurs are 20-30 feet with a maximum trailer length of 22 feet. The site sits at an elevation of 7,900 feet. The South Platte River is nearby for fishing.

Hard Core Mt Bike route

Harlequin Lake Shelter

Harlequin Lake Shelter is a remote 2 room A-frame building with a wall separating the north and south halves. It is located about a mile walk on trail from Harlequin Lake, and this shelter is located on a landing strip. There is great hiking, berry picking, ATV and snowmobile trails, hunting and some fishing in this area.

Harmon Den Area

Harmon Den is on the Appalachian Ranger District in the vicinity of exit 7 off of  I-40. The area is a haven for hikers and horseback riders. Harmony Falls Viewpoint

Enjoy a view of Spirit Lake with its still-floating raft of logs deposited during the 1980 eruption. An interpretive display shares the magic of the forest and lake, pre-eruption. Depart on the steep, one-mile Harmony Trail #224 that leads to the lakeshore. Harmony Falls is not visible. The site was submerged by the May 18, 1980 landslide which slammed into Spirit Lake, causing a 200-foot rise in lake level.
