Houston Recreation Area

An earthen ramp, suitable for small boat trailers, provides access to the 131 acres of Hovde Lake. Hovde Lake is three miles south of MN Highway 200. Bass, walleye, and northern pike are found in this lake.

Howard Creek - 22W26

Howard Creek Trail (22W26) Length: 2.8 miles Difficulty: moderate Turn right on Rose Valley Road and drive .4 miles and park on the right. The trail starts on a dirt road behind a locked gate. This is one of the shortest hikes to Nordhoff Ridge where there are fantastic views of the coastline and the Ojai Valley.

Howard Lake Campground

Howard Lake campground is located south of Libby on road 4779. The campground has 10 sites (3 pull thru's) including one host site with tables and fire rings.  Campground roads and parking spurs are gravel.  Amenities include vault toilets and swimming beach. Howard Lake Campground

Howard Lake is a 20-acre lake. It is a popular primitive experience. A high-clearance vehicle is needed to cross the creek on one section of the road into Howard Lake. Avoid parking or pitching tents under dead standing trees. Use extreme caution in high winds. Downed trees, dropped limbs, stump holes and unstable terrain may be present. Fishing may be impacted by lilly pads and low water levels.

Howard Meadows Campground

Has 6 developed sites and 1 vault toilet. No water. A high-clearance vehicle is needed to cross one section of the road into the campground. This campground has a variety of oak and conifer tree species within and around the campground. The campground experienced fire damage from the 2020 August Complex. Howard Lake is just down the road from Howard Meadow Campground, where lake fishing is possible.

Howard Springs Picnic Site

Located off of Highway 20 near Targhee Pass, Howard Springs Picnic Sites has potable water, picnic tables, and grills for recreational use.

Howell Lake

This small lake has no developments.  There is a small parking area, but no developed boat launch.   All of these lakes are located in the Old Lead Belt, where much of the nation’s lead ore was once mined, so consumption of large quantities of fish from these lakes may pose some health risk. Howker Ridge / Randolph Path Trailhead

The Howker Ridge Trail is a strenuous and exposed, but highly scenic route to the summit of Mount Madison. The Randolph Path, which also departs from this trailhead, travels in a Southwest direction, crosses many other trails in the Northern Presidentials, and ends in the saddle between Mount Adams and Mount Jefferson.

Huachuca #121

Huachuca Peak, 8,410 ft., is outside the Forest boundary and is in the Fort Huachuca Military Reservation. It is off-limits to travelers. Huachuca Mountains

The Huachuca Mountains are the third highest of the Sky Island mountain ranges in southeastern Arizona and they rise almost 4,500 feet above the desert floor. Hubbard Brook Trailhead

The Hubbard Brook trail is little used, but quickly accesses a beaver pond area that is attractive, although the trail is frequently disrupted by beaver activity. After the wet area the trail descends to the Warren to Woodstock snowmobile trail (also FR 211) and ends at a gate just off NH Rte.118 in Warren at 2.4 miles.

Hubbard Canyon #704

The Hubbard Canyon Trail #704 begins at a parking area at the north end of, Condemn It Park Road,  Forest Service Road #704, which is also the Gunnison National Forest boundary. Huckleberry Campground

This is a popular 8 unit campground located along a small creek suitable for fishing. Large Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir shade the areas during the day. No hook-ups and no potable water are available. You will need to bring your own water. The typical operating season is mid-May through the end of November.
