This habitat photo shows emergent Brodiaea filifolia foliage as dark green bands amongst lower stature Eurasian grasses, primarily wild oats (Avena barbata) and bromes (Bromus spp.) These bands are only visible within a few weeks of the season's first winter rains, after which the Brodiaea foliage becomes difficult to locate within the dense annual grass growth.
