Where to find rare native plants and flowers on the Allegheny.
Wildflower Viewing Areas are sites of high botanic interest selected by botanists for the native plants and flowers found within them. One of these areas can be found on the Allegheny National Forest. Consider visiting this site during your next trip to the forest. Don't forget your camera!
National Scenic Byway - State Route 59: A drive on State Route 59 from the Bradford District Office to Warren in the month of June and July (typically the last week of June and first week of July) offers a spectacular view of Pennsylvania's state flower, Mt. Laurel (Kalmia latifolia). It's common across the Allegheny National Forest and Pennsylvania. However, the viewing ability and abundance along this section of road makes it a prime spot for viewing.
