Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Dark Canyon Lookout Observation Site

Dark Day Campground is located on Bullards Bar Reservoir and it is with in walking distance of  the lake. Darling Creek Trailhead

The Darling Creek Trailhead is located near the South Fork Campground in the Williams Fork area. The Darling Creek Trail (#18) is 5.2 miles one way. The trail crosses the boardwalk. The trail is a moderate hike at the start. When the trail forks from Darling Creek, it quickly gains elevation and becomes steep in sections. When the trail connects with the St. Louis Divide Trail, there is an excellent view of the area.

Darnell Shooting Range

The Darnell Shooting Range is a very basic range with few developed facilities. There are 2 shooting benches but you must supply your own target structures on which to post your targets. The maximum target distance is 100 yards. No other distances are marked. Road conditions do not accommodate low-clearance vehicle such as a typical passenger sedan.
