Elk Falls Area-Elk River Falls (Big Falls)
There is a rocky walkway access (.5 mile) to a popular scenic spot that has a 65 foot high waterfall along the Elk River. It begins at the Elk Park parking lot and ends at Big Falls.
Average walking time is approximately 15 minutes to the falls.
Please use extreme caution near the falls and on the walkway.

Elk Garden Trailhead
Spectacular views for motorists and a prime trailhead for hikers and horseback riders, Elk Garden is one of the most popular trailheads in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. From this location, visitors can access the Appalachian Trail, Virginia Highlands Horse Trail, and the Elk Garden Trail. The trailhead is a short drive from Whitetop Mountain Road, the highest elevation public road in Virginia.

Elk Summit Lookout
The Elk Summit lookout tower remains intact although not currently used by the Forest Service. It is not accessible by the public. The log cabin at the base of the lookout may be added to the Forest Service cabin rental program in the future. The site is often used by snowmobilers as a rest point.
