Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Ethan Pond - Ripley Falls Trailhead

This portion of the Appalachian Trail provides access to the Willey Range Trail and Mts. Willey, Field & Tom or a gradual climb to AMC Ethan Pond Shelter (fee site) at 2.6 miles. The trail ends at the junction with the Twinway hiking trail at 7.2 miles.

Ethan Pond Shelter

​The Ethan Pond Shelter is located at the eastern shore of the scenic Ethan Pond at the edge of the Pemigewasset Wilderness. The Shelter can be accessed via a short side trail off the the Ethan Pond Trail (Appalachain Trail). Etna Summit Trailhead

The Pacific Crest Trail crosses County Road 1C01 at Etna Summit (5960'). The trail heads north into the Marble Mountain Wilderness and south into the Russian Wilderness. This area has great views and cooler temperatures than the Scott Valley below. There is parking available.  Due to elevation, accessibility determined by snow levels.

Eucalyptus

This site offers fishing, water reacreation and wildlife viewing. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for access to shoreline from paved parking area. Several trails and staircases provide easy access from paved parking to shoreline reacreation.

Euchre Bar Trail and Trailhead

This 5.28 mile trail goes along the North Fork of the American River.

Eureka #129

Lightly used trail that parallels Sunnyside Canyon Trail #117 for 3.2 miles and also has a loop opportunity to come back on #117 for 3.6 miles creating an approximately 7 mile loop.

Evangeline Camp

The Evangeline Camp is located 4 miles south of Louisiana Highway 28 on Forest Road 273 (Messina Road). This road is paved until about 1/2 mile from the camp where it turns into gravel. The best camping flats are just down the hill past the vaulted restroom. There is no water at this site.

Evans Creek Trailhead

Evans Creek Trailhead provides access to 40 miles of combined four-wheel drive and motorcycle/quad trails of varying difficulty. At the nearby picnic area provides a covered picnic shelter on first come first serve. The nearby Evans Creek Campground provides a rustic place to camp.

Evans Flat Campground

6100-foot elevation. 20 campsites with fenced pastures and corrals for horses. A network of roads and trails covers the area. Access from Rancheria Road in the Greenhorn Mountains. Fenced pasture, 4 equestrian sites, no drinking water, Maximum RV length 20 feet.

Evans Notch Overlook
