Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Bennett Creek Picnic Site

This picnic area is situated next to County Road 63E (Pingree Park Road) where it crosses Bennett Creek. It is in an open coniferous forest with steep mountainous topography. There is a parking area, two picnic sites, with a table and fire grate, and a restroom available. There is no drinking water. Primary use of this area is picnicking and fishing in Bennett Creek.

Bennett Pass Sno-Park/Trailhead

This Sno-Park is a great option for recreating early in the winter season due to the higher elevation. Follow direction of Mt. Hood Meadows parking staff for access on busy days. This parking lot has a 5% grade so good tires are a must. Bent Creek Experimental Forest

Big Bar Camping Area

This is a large dispersed campground with no formal parking or camping units located along the Snake River in Hells Canyon. Used by both tent campers and RVs, the area offers a place to camp along the Snake River. Few amenities exist, there is one outhouse and informational sign at the pull in to the parking area.
