Your national forests and grasslands are 193 million acres of vast, scenic beauty waiting for you to discover. Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Sam Tobias Memorial Group Campground

Sam's Creek Campground

Sam's Creek Campground, near the Gospel-Hump Wilderness on Crooked Creek and Sams Creek, is peacefully tucked in among a grove of  pine trees with the soothing sounds of the river running in the background. Three campsites, tables and fire grates allow for relaxed camping. There is limited parking and limited maneuvering for camp trailers.

Samelius Trailhead

Samelius Trailhead is located 18 miles west of Rapid City, and 6 miles east of Hill City right off Highway 16.  This is the southernmost Trail Head for the Centennial trail in the Central Hills (Mystic District).

Sample Meadow Campground

Located near the Kaiser and Ansel Adams Wilderness', Sample Meadow Campground offers 16 campsites located along Kaiser Creek. Vault toilets are provided and each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and bear box. There is trailhead parking outside of campground approximately .5 mile for hikes into the wilderness. San Antonio Group Campground

The San Antonio Group Campground is located in the San Antonio Campground. This area has towering ponderosa pines, open forest meadows, and has the San Antonio River running alongside it. San Antonio Hot Springs

The hot spring water emerges from several sources on a steep hillside, and flows into several primitive, rock lined soaking pools of different temperatures. Access via a 0.7-mile out and back trail. To reach this trailhead visitors must use Forest Service Road 376 (North) for 5 miles.Visitors can make use of small parking area for non-motorized access.

San Carlos Ranger District

The San Carlos Ranger District manages the southern half of the San Isabel National Forest. The District is 50 miles wide and 110 miles long with about 400,000 acres of National Forest in Fremont, Custer, Huerfano, Pueblo and Las Animas counties. San Diego Canyon Overlook Overlook Site

San Diego Overlook Site offers magnificent views of San Diego Canyon. Located on Jemez Mountain Trail National Scenic Byway(NM HWY 4), the site provides accessible restrooms and a paved trail out to the edge of the canyon. Uses: Scenery and wildlife viewing.  Facilities: Paved parking, vault toilet, ADA trail to overlook. Special Instructions: Popular for cross country skiing.    

San Diego Fishing Site

The San Diego Fishing Site offers parking and access to the Lower Jemez River. Located on NM HWY 4 approximately seven miles south of Jemez Springs. Uses: Fishing. Facilities: Paved parking. Special Instructions: Clean fish away from river and parking area.

San Francisco Hot Springs #250 Trailhead

Trailhead on the west side of US Highway 180, south of Glenwood, NM between mile markers 58 and 59, for San Francisco Hot Springs Trail #250.

San Gabriel Canyon Gateway Info. Site/Fee Station

The San Gabriel Canyon Gateway Center is a 2.5 – acre pocket park and interpretive center in Azusa that provides a unique interface between urban and Angeles National Forest environments marking the entrance to the National Forest - National Monument. Stop here on weekends to pick up a wilderness permit, buy an Adventure Pass (CASH ONLY), or simply ask for information for your adventure out in the Angeles. 

San Gabriel Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area

The San Gabriel Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Area (OHV) is located 11 miles north of Azusa, CA, on Highway 39. Over 160 acres of rocky, sandy river bottom await users of 2-, 3-, and 4-wheeled OHVs. Reservations are required before entering the OHV area.
