The Santa Rosa Ranger District office is located in Winnemucca (pop. 7,788), Nevada, and lies in Humboldt County. Largely undiscovered, the Santa Rosa Ranger District is over 280,000 acres. The District is a local favorite and contributes significantly to the rural economy of northern Nevada.

Santa Rosa Rd (7S02), sometimes locally referred to as the Santa Rosa Truck Trail, is an 11 miles road accessed from Hwy 74. It begins in chaparral and winds its way up to pines and cedars below Santa Rosa and Toro peaks. The road is usually closed each winter if snow and ice create dangerous conditions.

Hamburg was named in 1851 by Sigmond Simon, a German miner who prospered in the mercantile business at Scott Bar. Hamburg boasted a population of 5000 around 1880. Hamburg Postmaster Dan Caldwell built the old store west of the campground along the highway in 1859.
