Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Sand River Camp

Sand is on the north side of the river 8.3 miles below dam and 1.1 miles below Little Hole.  Site has one table, one fire ring, three tent pads (fits up to four or five tents), portable toilet screen and two benches.  Site has natural shade.  Capacity: 8-10 people.

Sand Run Pond Picnic Area

Picnicking at Sand Run is a popular activity for Wayne National Forest visitors looking for an out-of-the way place to spend the day. Several shady picnic sites offer a relaxing atmosphere for family gatherings. A nearby peaceful pond is surrounded by stately pine trees and is very scenic.
