Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Sherwin Creek Campground

Located in a grove of Jeffrey Pine Trees within 2 miles of the town of Mammoth Lakes. 85 Campsites.

Sherwin Creek Road

15 miles round trip Starts on Old Mammoth Road by the Mammoth Museum and Sierra Meadows Ranch on 4S08.  There are beautiful meadows and lots of aspen trees by the creek, providing plenty of places to picnic.  You'll find great views of laurel Mountain and the fall colors here are amazing.  Also good wildlife viewing.  Route ends back on Hwy. 395.  Well-maintained dirt road. 

Sherwood Campground/Day Use

Located on the East Fork Hood River. The campground is wheelchair accessible.

Shiefer Campground

Shiefer Campground is an undeveloped site on the Salmon River with views of the South Fork canyon country all around. Elevation 3050 feet. Trails lead along the river into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. A shorter trail leads to Pilot Peak lookout. Please pack out your trash. This campground takes several hours to reach by car from McCall and is not serviced on a regular basis.

Shimmering Point Observation Site

This a day use pull out area that has views of Turquoise Lake.

Shinbone TR 187

The trail parallels Shinbone Creek and provides views of the Unaka Mountains and the magnificent Nolichucky Gorge. Shingle Creek ATV Campground

This is an unpaved campground with no hook-ups. The nearest phone is 8 miles away. Popular local recreation activities include ATV trail riding, stream fishing and hiking.

SHINGLE CREEK CUA DISPERSED

Shingle Creek is a large grassy meadow with dispersed camping opportunities. Common vegetation consists of cottonwood, pinyon, juniper, aspen, Engleman Spruce, fir, and Ponderosa Pine. Shingle Lake

The Shingle Lake Trail is 1.1 miles long. It begins at Trappers Lake Trail #1816 and ends at Shingle Lake.

This is a group picnic site that is good for day and evening events.

Shingle Mill Reservoir

Shingle Mill Reservoir is a small 1.9 acre reservoir located in the upper Twelve Mile Canyon on the Mount Baldy Road #50024.  The Department of Wildlife Resources of Utah (DWR) stocks this reservoir with Rainbow Trout.

Shingle Peak TH #2042

The Shingle Peak trail is 7.7 miles long. It begins at Turret Creek Trail #1832 (Hilltop Trailhead) and ends at Turret Creek Trail #1832.

Shinglemill Trailhead

The Shinglemill Trailhead provides access to the Shinglemill Trail (#725), Morrison Creek Trail (#724) and the Colorado Trail (#1776) Segment 3. This trailhead is in an active timber sale area. 

Shingobee Recreation Area

Nestled along the rolling hills of the Shingobee River Valley, the Shingobee Recreation Area provides a variety of summer and winter activities. The area offers 6 miles of trails for hiking, hunting, birdwatching, and cross-country skiing in the heart of Minnesota's Northwoods. Shining Rock Wilderness

Designated as a Wilderness Area in September of 1964, Shining Rock encompasses over 18,000 acres. This area has elevations varying from 3300 to over 6,000 feet, lies on the north slope of the Pisgah Ledge, a northeasterly extension of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and gets its name from the white quartz outcropping near the crest of the Shining Rock Mountain.

Shirley Creek Campground

Shirley Creek Campground is a primitive campground with pit toilets, hitching racks, and water for livestock. The campground is designed for horse camping, however, any National Forest visitor is welcome to camp. There is no use fee at this site. Day use parking is also available free at the campground.

Shirley Meadows (Alta Sierra)

Located in the Greenhorn Mountains, Shirley Meadows has a ski resort called Alta Sierra operating through a Forest Service Special Use Permit. Several trails start from this area as well. Please see https://www.altasierra.com/ for current conditions and additional information.

Shirley Site Trailhead

Shirley Site is located off of Highway 285 and County Road 200 just below Poncha Pass. Shirley got its name during the 1880's when it served as a busy construction camp for men building the Denver and Rio Grande rail line over Marshall Pass to the ore-rich mines in Gunnison. By summer of 1881, Shirley boasted 14 large business tents, most of which were saloons and dance halls.
