Your national forests and grasslands are 193 million acres of vast, scenic beauty waiting for you to discover. Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Shirttail Campground

Shirttail Creek Campground is located on the north west shore of Sugar Pine Reservoir, this campground is set in a cedar and pine forest overlooking the reservoir.  It is near the North Fork of the American River with access to trails, fishing, boating, OHV riding and swimming.  

Shoal Cove - Osten Island Buoy Boating Site

This buoy is available on a first come; first serve basis and is intended for use by small and medium watercraft. The buoy is located in 30-80 feet of water and has a 7/8 inch chain. Look for a white buoy with blue reflective tape.

Shoal Creek Trailhead

The Shoal Creek Trailhead is right off of Highway 191/189 near the Kozy Campground. This trail follows Shoal Creek up towards Shoal Falls, Shoal Lake, and the Gros Venture Wilderness.

Shockaloe Base Camp II

Shockaloe Base Camp II provides parking and picnicking for riders traveling on the Shockaloe Horse Trail. The area is a delightful “piney woods” setting. Facilities include five pull-through parking spaces, one group pavilion and hitching rails.    Located 8 miles northwest of Forest on Forest Service Road 513.

Shoemaker Bay Overlook Shelter

The Shoemaker Bay Overlook Shelter on Wrangell Island is located at the end of the Institute Creek Trail on the North Wrangell trail system. The location provides excellent views of Zimovia Straight, Shoemaker Bay, and the surrounding islands.

Shoepack Lake

This is one of our Backcountry sites which is a near- wilderness single party site and is accessible only by foot or boat. These sites are first come, first served. There is one site on this lake, each have a fire grate, a latrine and may have a picnic table. Shogren Dam Picnic Area

Pack up your picnic basket and enjoy one of this favorite spaces on the Chippewa National Forest. Shogren Dam picnic area is located on the on Bowstring River in Chippewa National Forest near Wirt, MN. 

Shongelo Lake

This small recreation area is located 5 miles north of Raleigh, MS and 21 miles south of Forest, MS. Shongelo Lake is a 5-acre lake offering bank fishing. A swimming area, seven picnic sites, picnic shelter and hiking trail make this site appealing for family day use enjoyment.

Shoofly Trailhead

Provides access to: Shoofly Trail #954 which enters Red Buttes Wilderness and travels south for 0.7 mile to meet Butte Fork Trail #957. Facilities No picnic table No fire pit No drinking water No toilet No garbage disposal - Please pack it out

Shook Branch Beach

Shook Branch Recreation Area is located on the southern shore of Watauga Lake in Carter County, TN. This 20-acre site includes a large, grassy area for picnicking, picnic tables with grills, and a designated swimming area in the lake. Some shade is provided by large trees that border grassy areas. The Appalachian Trail (#1) passes through Shook Branch Recreation Area.

Shooting Range - Comanche National Grassland

This shooting range is self-serve and will accommodate rifle, shotgun and pistol enthusiasts. This is a great location for big game hunters to sight in their rifles prior to hunting seasons.

Shoreline Boating

Shoreline Boating area provides a small, dirt parking area large enough for about a dozen cars. However, across the street is a huge, paved lot at Shoreline Campground.  There is one ramp and one dock.  Restrooms and picnic tables are provided at the campground.

Shoreline Campground and Group sites

Shoreline Campground has single, double and group sites and is located just across the road from beautiful Warm Lake, at an elevation of 5,300 feet. Shores Lake Recreation Area

Shores Lake Recreation Area offers an 82-acre lake with a fully accessible bathroom facility with ramps. The fishing piers were designed with wheelchair use in mind. Underwater structures were built to attract fish to the fishing piers. The Short Point Cutoff Trail #651.1A is used primarily as a connecting route between the Brushy Ridge Road, FSR #409 and the Short Point Trail #615. Showers Point Group Campground

Shrew Creek #321

4 miles on way more difficult trail. Hikers and experienced Motorcycle riders only. Begin the 4 mile trail on Forest Service Road #3700-316 road for 2 miles, then travel up the Shrew Creek Trail #321 through lodgepole and dense alder to tie in with the Forest Service Road #4200-035 road just south of Starvation Mountain.
