Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Shenoah Picnic Area

The picnic area sits near the banks of the Blacksmith Fork River, surrounded by rugged hills that are shaded by black willow and box elder trees.

Shepherd Branch Shooting Range

Shepherd Branch Shooting Range, open year-round, is located about 8 miles southeast of Talladega on State Highway 77.  The shooting range has four benches for firearms at 25, 50, and 100 yard ranges.

Sherando Lake Recreation Area

Sherando Lake Recreation Area is known locally as the jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Families enjoy picnicking in this shaded and woody area, while relaxing on the sandy beach of a 25-acre spring-fed lake. Access to multiple trailheads and rustic architecture provide numerous points of interest for families to enjoy.

Sherburne Pass Loop

From the Appalachian Trail/Long Trail parking lot on US Rte. 4 in Mendon, follow the AT/LT south. The Sheridan Crosscut Trail #689.1A begins on Tomboy Road and ends at an intersection with the Liberty Trail #431. Sheridan Lake South Campground

This campground is along the south shore of Sheridan Lake. Within its 5 large loops, there are many sites with direct access to the lake. Access to the south boat ramp and the Flume Trailhead from within the campground and easy access to the South Beach Area, this recreational complex has everything needed for a fun, family camping experience.

Sheridan Mountain/Smith Mesa

Sheridan North Picnic Area

The Sheridan North Picnic Area has 12 picnic sites. Restroom facilities are available. A beach, boat launch, group campground, marina and store are located adjacent to the picnic area. This is a busy recreation area in the summer.

Sheridan North Swim Beach

The Sheridan Lake North Swim Beach is a busy recreation area in the summer. A picnic area, boat launch, group campground, marina and store are located adjacent to the campground.

Sheridan South Picnic Area

The Sheridan South Picnic Area has 93 picnic sites. Restroom facilities are available.

Sheridan South Swim Beach

Sheridan swim beach is located on the south shore and inlet to lake. Depending on weather and reservoir levels, buoys are generally installed in early May and removed by mid-October.

Sheriff Reservoir Campground

Sheriff Reservoir is a small campground with 5 sites in a tightly forested loop best suited for tents and is located approximately 15 miles to the west of Yampa, CO. Each site has a picnic table and firegrate and there is a vault toilet. Sheriff Reservoir Trailhead

This seasonal trail is generally not melted off until mid-late June due to snow levels at this elevation. Sherman Guard Station Cabin

The Sherman Guard Station is located up the Horse Creek drainage just west of Daniel, Wyoming. The guard station is located 28 miles from Pinedale, Wyoming and 43 miles from Big Piney, Wyoming. Sherman Overlook #96.A

Sherman Overlook Campground

This Campground is equipped with picnic areas and 9 tent/trailer sites. Bathrooms are available. Some campsites are private. Connects to the Kettle Crest via the Sherman Pass Tie Trail #96. Sherman Pass / Sno-Park

Located on Highway 20, Sherman Pass is a difficult non-motorized trail. Parking is located on north side of the road and is plowed during the winter season. Elevation: 5,575 feet   

Sherman Pass Road

Sherman Pass Road (22S05) provides access to the Kern Plateau. This scenic route stretches from the North Fork of the Kern River in the west, east to the high desert, connecting to Highway 395. The road is open from late May or early June, depending on snow, until the snow falls in late fall or winter.
